Stand firm in the Lord

I am a loyal American, served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam war,a husband of 36 years and father of 3 grown children and one young son still at home, but more than that I am a committed Christian. I have sought to live my life in submission to my Lord Jesus ever since He saved me over 31 years ago. I have failed Him many times in that 31 years but have never dishonored His wonderful Name.
My political views are similar to many other Conservative Americans and I am very concerned about the direction that the present administration is taking this great country of ours. I am watching with great interest the town hall meetings that are taking place all around America and I do feel that it is the constitutional right of us all to make our voice heard where we object to the direction our elected officials are taking us. But as a committed Christian American I believe we must have a more urgent message brought to our elected officials and that is that we serve a Higher Authority and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
As Biblical Christians our first responsibility is to bring glory to our God and that is done by not compromising our commitment to Christ. He tells us in His Word that "He is the Way the Truth and the Life and that no one comes to the Father but through Him"
My question is to all the elected officials throughout our great land who profess to be "Born Again" Christians, "Are you serving Christ as the Lord or the American people?" If you are truly "Saved" don't you have a conviction going on in your hearts that you must be standing up for Christ FIRST? I have never served as an elected public official, but I can imagine how difficult it must be with so much opposition to the Gospel all around you. But if you are a committed Christian I know that your Lord is telling you that you must stand for Him first and not compromise the truth for the sake of your public office. (Remember Daniel, he was a Governor of a very wicket nation, yet he never compromised.)
My great concern for our country is that the true Christian elected officials are not standing for Christ and are being lead into compromise at every turn. In today's society we must be tolerant of all different cultures and religions and that is very biblical, but we as True Christians must not be accepting immoral or anti-Christian lifestyles or religions. Jesus tells us that if we are not for Him than we are against Him. I believe it is a gross compromise of biblical Christianity to say that morality is relative or that one god is as good as the true and living God, Jesus Christ. Do you see my point? When Daniel was told that he must not pray to his God but to bow down and worship the King, he refused. He stood firm on what he knew was right, even though it would cost him his life.
That is were our problem lies in America today. The true believer's especially the elected officials are not standing firm on their biblical convictions. I believe it is FEAR. Fear of men and fear of ridicule and public embarrassment. I believe that this is exactly what Jesus was talking about when He said in Matthew 5:11, "Blessed are those who are reviled and persecuted for My name sake..." Do you know how many of our brothers and sisters are being persecuted for their faith in other countries around the world? We live in a country where we have freedom to believe and express that belief, and we hold back and even compromise what we know is the truth. Shame on us.
What would happen if an elected official during an interview with the press was asked if he believed that Jesus was the only way to heaven and he answered in the way that the Bible tells him to answer. Not by using some clever spin, but honestly holding firm to his true committment to Christ. What would happen?
