Christ and Christmas

Christmas is almost here again. Every year we all get caught up in the hussle and bussel of the holiday shopping and get togethers, and that seems to make the approach of that day come even quicker. Are you like me, does all this rushing and planning tend to side track you from the real meaning of Christmas?

Oh, here we go again, Larry has to always get serious and look at the deeper meanings in things. Can't you just enjoy the traditions of the Holiday Spirit, and not get all religious on us? Truly, these are the comments I get from some of my dearest and closest family and friends. I can't help myself, My Lord has charged me many years ago, not to shrink back from declaring the 'Full counsel of God'. What better time of year to do just that, and whoever doesn't want to hear it can click off this blog and go on your merry way.

When God took on human flesh and came into this world that He created it was the fulfilment of a plan that was begun by the Godhead Himself before the world or universe was even created. That is mind boggling in itself, but the Word of God is very clear on that point. I am teaching through a great book called "The History of the Work of Redemption" by Jonathan Edwards and at the very beginning in Genesis chapter 3 :15 God began to reveal to mankind that He would provide a way of salvation, and that first of many revelations of God was fulfilled in that little Baby in Bethlehem.

I know that this truth about Christmas is not whats on the mind of most people as we approach December 25th, but I thought it might be a good idea to remind you and maybe it could refocus your attention in the right direction. The Bible says, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners", and that is what we all are, like it or not. The Bible also says, " There is no other Name under heaven whereby humans can be saved, except in Jesus" This is the whole reason why the Christian religion was begun so many years ago and why all of our calendars are dated as they are, He is the center of all history (His story). 2010 years ago, give or take a few years, Jesus was born into this world with a mission, to save all those who would put their trust in Him.

In a sense we are all celebrating a birthday of a real person, Jesus, but not all agree who this Person really is. Is He my Savior or just some historical figure? Maybe you don't even believe that, maybe you just think of Him as some made up person that someone used to start a religion a long time ago, maybe like Santa Clause. Isn't that just a little hypocritical, to celebrate His birthday if you don't even believe in Him? At least other religions aren't hypocrites, they don't celebrate Christmas because they don't believe that Jesus was the Christ, and that is their right.

I think people should be honest with themselves. If you don't believe that Jesus is the Christ of God and that He came to save you from your sins, then why celebrate His birthday? Just get into the festive spirit, have your family and friends over and celebrate a Happy Holiday, but don't call it Christmas. Oh, thats right, most of America is already doing that.
